Mickey Mouse Platy – Live Aquarium Fish, 6 or 12 Pack
Low stock: 4 left
Mickey Mouse Platy (Xiphophorus maculatus) brings red-orange color and distinctive black tail markings to a peaceful community aquarium. Named for the round markings near its tail that resemble Mickey Mouse, this fish is a colorful choice for aquarists who enjoy planted tanks and watching fish explore the middle and upper water levels.
Choose a pack of 6 or 12 fish to suit your aquarium's space and existing inhabitants. Plan for the full group's adult size, not just the minimum tank size listed below.
Community tank compatibility
Mickey Mouse Platies are peaceful, shoaling fish that can coexist with most compatible aquarium species and many invertebrates. They may eat smaller dwarf shrimp and shrimp fry, so they are not the best choice for a tank where protecting baby shrimp is a priority. A planted aquarium offers an appealing setting for their bright coloring and active swimming.
Tank setup and care
- Temperature: 64–77°F (17.7–25°C).
- pH: The supplier lists 7.0–8.2, with a maximum of 7.5 described as ideal.
- Minimum tank size: 10 gallons; account for group size and other tank inhabitants when selecting your setup.
- Adult size: Approximately 2–2.8 inches (5–7.1 cm). Females grow larger than males.
- Diet: A variety of high-quality dry and frozen foods, including flake food and frozen bloodworms.
- Behavior: Peaceful and shoaling, typically occupying the middle and upper areas of the aquarium.
- Secure lid: These fish can jump, particularly while adjusting to a new home. Keep the aquarium securely covered.
Supplier quarantine and shipping care
Glass Grown Aquatics states that its live fish receive the “Med Trio” during quarantine before sale: Maracyn for bacterial infections, Paracleanse for internal and external parasites, and Ich-X for fungal infections.
The supplier ships in insulated packaging with medicated water and Purigen, using tracked and insured USPS Priority shipping only. Cool packs are used when needed. If temperatures in your area are below 40°F, consider purchasing a heat pack.
Prepare for arrival
Arrange to bring your fish indoors promptly when they arrive rather than leaving them in the mailbox. If nobody can be home, consider the free USPS mail hold service noted by the supplier. Prepare your aquarium in advance and review proper drip-acclimation procedures before arrival to help reduce stress as your new fish settle in.
